Day 7

June 21, 2010

It is with great sadness that I write this post today.

Doug's battle with cancer has ended and he has gone to his heavenly home.

His blood pressure was dropping throughout the morning and the heart Dr. was called. He advised me that the heart medications were not working and it would only be a matter of hrs. His passing was peaceful and he held on till Lauren and Dalton were able to make it to say goodbye. Then he let go.

I will remember the young Doug that I married and the great times we had with each other.

I will miss him more than words can say and I know that he is watching over us.

Doug was loved by so many and I know he feels it.

Thank you for all your kind words and encouragement it ment so much.

Love,

Nancy, Lauren and Dalton

As I sit here, I am sad that Doug is no longer with you all, but rejoice that his suffering is over. I remember once when Doug came to Berne, he saw snow for the first time. He was sooooo excited. I can just imagine how excited he is seeing Christ in heaven!! if he thought snow was great....wow think what he is experiencing right now! I am proud of the way he lived his life. I am proud of the way he loved his family, his wife and his children. He was a fighter. He ran this last race with dignity and determination. He fought the good fight, he finished the race, he won! Doug will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Nancy, our prayers are with you, Lauren, Dalton and Doug's family.

I am so sorry.
I didn't know Doug well. We were teammates for the 2010 Disney marathon season.
I am honored to have known him.

Nancy,

Getting to know Doug, I knew what a strong and kind person he was. And him bringing me to meet his family in NC made me feel at home. With his video we will be able to bring awareness and have more people join the Marrow Registry. My prayers go out to you and your children. Please keep us posted on any future arrangements. God Bless.

I've never seen anyone happier to ride a bike than Doug, he had the biggest grin the entire time we'd ride. It shows that he had true happiness and contentment in his heart. I'll always hold close the last time I was with Doug during a training just before he did the Princess Half, he spoke of you and the kids with such love and pride, remembering a family vacation. Doug was a very special person and I know how lucky I was to have met him. He has found comfort now and I know that he is reaching out from heaven to comfort his family.
My deepest sympathies,

My thoughts and prayers are with you. I didn't know Doug but was kept informed through Beth. It took courage and faith for this man to do what he set to do, family, friends and God watching over. My prayers with the family.

I knew Doug and his family through First Baptist Cocoa and Rockledge High. My prayers are with you and your children today, and have been these past several weeks. I am thankful he is resting in Jesus' arms tonight...

Nancy, Lauren, and Dalton,
Melanie, Karissa, and I will be thinking of you and praying for you in this very hard time. I cannot begin to know the pain you are going through, and I pray for a peace to come to you from God's Holy Spirit, that God will bless your time of mourning and grief. I did not know Doug for long, but I could tell he brought joy to everyone he knew, and his legacy will remain. We are praying for you all. Adam

Dear Nancy and Family,

I am so very sorry for your loss. I will never forget Doug's big smile which I got to see plenty of while training for the TNT's Intercoastal Century ride last October. He loved flying down Sugarloaf as fast as he could! Doug truly will be missed and I continue to pray for you and your family to help you through this difficult time.

Nancy,
My heart is breaking for you and the kids. Doug is a true hero who I am so grateful that I got to know. I will always keep the memory of all of us at the Grand Canyon close to my heart - I'll never forget how Doug led the way on our amazing Canyon journey.
My prayers are with you.
